Billing 2 locations
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:11:12 PM »
We are opening a second location under the same tax-id, but want the insurance payments to go to the separate locations or to different bank accounts for EFT payments.  Is this possible and how do I do this?  Thanks!

you need to contact each insurance company.  You will have to fill out forms for this.   Its just like setting everything up in the beginning with the first location.  I have found that with second, third etc locations each insurance company requires something different than the last.

Do you know if the insurance companies require new separate contracts?

Most of the time especially for the big insurances example BCBS etc, they require 1 mailing/billing address per 1 tax id. Medicare is the same as well. 1 ptan# for 1 tax id.

Just the same, its always best to get it from the insurances themselves. But this is what I have gone thru so far after adding a second location to one of our clients.

Also, when adding a second location, there is no need for another contract unless for medicare its another pay locality, in which will require a new PTAN #.

You will need to inform the payers that you are adding a second location.

Hope this information helps.

I have had carriers who require another contract. From what I can tell it depends on the locality's. For example, I had one client who opened another practice 2 towns over so it changed his geographic area which in turn changes reimbursements for certain procedures. We had to credential both separately.  Another previous client I had back in NJ only opened another practice in same town on other side and we did not have to credential both and were able to use ONE contract.
