« on: May 21, 2010, 04:30:05 PM »
senaior:  NP=Nurse Practioner ARNP
NP works under the direction of a D.O.  Is there an modifer that you add to the D.O's NPI# letting the insurance company know that the NP treating the patient under the direction of the D.O. for that days visits  OR Does the D.O. and the NP need to get an provider# or NPI# together..  I'm confused on this issue.   Can you bill like that.. (senario= there's an NP that works under the direction of a D.O., what's the correct way to bill..

The NP should have an individual NPI and it should be linked to the DO (or group) with each insurance carrier that recognizes NP's individually.  Some insurance carriers require that services by NP's are billed under the directing physician's NPI & name, others require that the NP's info be reported.  The billing needs to be done the way the insurance carrier requires it.
