CPT 97532, 97533, 96116
« on: November 14, 2012, 11:28:15 AM »
Hi -
Need your help please.

Can a pediatrician bill as a supervising provider when a medical staff is providing cognitive service for autistic/attention deficit, visual/sensory/auditory disorder , etc kids – such as computers as the therapy tool.  Medical staff is not a therapist, but is credentialed teacher.
Provider is  to bill for CPT 97532 (?).
If it’s possible, for the 2-hour duration, only 97532 code can be used?
When can the 97533, 96116 or 97150 be applied?
Or are these the right codes to use?
Thank you so much for your help.

Only Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physicians can bill out 97xxx codes.  They cannot be billed "incident-to".  The therapist or physician must have direct one-on-one contact.

97150 is a group, so there would be more than one patient receiving therapy.  It is not required that they receive direct one-on-one care from the physician, but they must be in constant attendance.

96116 can be billed by a psychologist or physician.  It can be used when conducting a neurobehavioral status exam to determine testing if any to be done (96118).

If the provider wants to be paid for these services, they must do them their self.
