« on: November 16, 2008, 10:21:43 PM »
Hi Michele,
I was just reading your book on Secrets to signing up your first doctor, I was wondering on the question that states,
How long have you been doing this?
well I am new to this, I graduated from the US Career Institute, but I have never done this work before, in this case what advice do you give?
margemib ???

I would respond something like:

"I haven't been doing this all that long, but I was trained at the US Career Institute and am a billing specialist.  Billing is what I have been trained in and that is what I'm good at. "

I hit 'post' too quick.

If you sound confident in your answer the provider will be more likely to be confident with you.  Assure him that billing is your specialty, and your only job and you take it very seriously.  You will do a good job for them.

I'm new to pediatrics billing....any advice on how I can stay informed with all the changes that happens in this industry (I have been doing billing for over ten years, but I always seem to be the last to know!).  Thank you.

There is another publication that I used to get at my physicians office, but I can't quite remember it sorry. If you work at the ped's office, they will get a lot of circulars for pediatric billing updates. Also keep up with the Medicaid rules in your state,a very vital key!!!

Some of the major insurance carriers have list serves that you can sign up for to receive updates via email.  Otherwise the best thing I can tell you is to check the insurance carrier websites regularly.  They usually post changes there first.
