Physician wants you to use their software
« on: September 04, 2012, 12:05:51 PM »
I am starting my own billing company with a friend. One area that we are stuck on is the software. How do you handle a situation where the office/physician wants you to use their software to bill?

Thanks

This is where I see a lot of new billing companies make a mistake by thinking they have to sell the provider on a new PM system. I have clients on various systems. I either use a remote package already in place, Logmein or their PM system is web based.   Today's billing company has to be diversified and ready. It's a selling point when you tell the provider they can stay with their PM system, transition is a breeze, your only drawback might be you need to learn a new PM system, but if you have experience with one, learning the others is a breeze :) I've not run into a software I can't use.. certainly though I've run into a few I hate working with, Medisoft being at the top of that list :(

I agree with this comment. There are hundreds of PM choices with more being developed and released. This will keep you competitive and flexible while delivering great service, based on your client's requirements/needs. And, you've just simplified your client's decision making process.

Thank you for all your responses..another question? How do you make sure that the staff or physicians aren't going in and making changes or working the claims? I was a billing manager and we had an outside client, the physician was refiling claims and the staff was changing our adjustments. Do you put something in your contract?

I agree with ya'll, we don't want to lose a client because we aren't willing to work with their software. By the way I love this forum, there is so much good information on here and has helped us a lot.

Thanks

I am not sure if Medisoft has this option but I know that in the software that I use I can manage what my providers see and what they can edit.  That way I know that claims are not being touched.  Also it protects me from having any conflict with claims getting denied due to them changing things.

With HIPAA compliance requirements EVERYONE with access MUST have their own login's that's not just for HIPAA compliance but it's for audit trail as well. With that said there are various ways for restricting access to read/write within the PM systems, this can be done on either the remote access software end or in the PM system itself. For example, I have clients who have access only to their reports and data to view, but I also have clients who want access to make changes and again there is an audit trail that will let you know what's changed and who changed it, (providing compliance is adhered to with log ins and access for only those who have need to know)   This all has to be addressed with the client, what their wishes are and should be very well detailed and outlined in each contract.
