Billing from ER to Discharge
« on: December 27, 2008, 02:33:09 PM »
Hi, I am very new at medical billing. Here's my question. A patient was admitted from the ER, had a Laparoscopic appendectomy on the 22nd and was discharged on the 23rd. My client gave me one fee schedule for this. What codes should I use for the ER admission  ( or should I use one ) and discharge.

It sounds like your client is the surgeon and gave you just the surgical code.  Usually the surgeon doesn't admit the patient, and the surgery includes xx number of followup days, so they wouldn't bill for subsequent hospital visits.  If they were the surgeon then it is probably correct with just the one code.
