We had a pt come in because of possible retained tampon. Any suggestions on a ICD9 code. No tampon was found so I don't think I can use 939.2. ???
-
Did the patient present with abdominal pain??
-
No

No what? I am asking you what her symptoms were when she came in? She just randomly came in with NO symptoms and said "I think I have a tampon stuck in me"?
-
I don't know if this would apply--but found on the icd9data.com site, as you can't code for foreign body, as there was none.
for suspected conditions not found V71.* >
2007 ICD-9-CM Diagnosis Code V71.89
Observation for other specified suspected conditions
V71.83 V71.9
V71.89 is a billable ICD-9-CM medical code that can be used to specify a diagnosis on a reimbursement claim.

She did not have any abdominal pain, she stated that she put a tampon in and she does not remember taking it out, and then was unable to find any string to take it out, so she came in thinking it was retained, but the dr. could not find it either.

What do you think about using V65.5 "person with feared complaint in whom no diagnosis was made".
-
Now that sounds appropriate :)
-
That has to be one of the most embarrassing things I've ever heard of. :-\
-
LOL, no I worked in the ER and I have stories........

-
