I have a nurse practitioner who is working in a mental health facility. She want to do her own billing for her services at the facility. The thing is her collaborative agreement is with a psychiatrist and she is seeing the patients for coughs, colds, and ailments not related to mental health. This is being done in the state of NJ. I looked up the state law and the law is very broad with who the collaborative agreement can be with. She is telling me she is ok to have the psychiatrist as her collaborator. The thing is to get her credentialed with insurance companies they don't want to credential her because the collaborator is not an MD. Has anyone run into anything like this with a nurse practitioner? Any comments/advise would be great!
