How long are physicians legally required to maintain their patient's EOB's?
-
I am not sure if there is a legal timeframe but it is suggested that you keep them on file for 3 to 5 years from the date of service. This is the same timeframe insurance companies keep the claim info readily available. It is always good to keep them on file in the event an insurance company requests a refund for any reason, your office has something to reference back to.

Also may vary by state so you should check your state laws.

I am aware that I should keep the EOB's for 3.5 years, but I was trying to satisfy a client's curiosity of how long this person might be required to maintain their EOB records.

I think the provider's requirement is the same as the billing service.
