Hi,

I have a question..I a new billing company and my first account is a new practice that has the EMR software. The doctor wants me to use his software and remote access from my house..I am helping him enroll his practice with each insurace and clearinghouse...but my question is since i am using the doctor's software do I have to register myself (the biller) with each insurance company? Or i don't need it because I am using the doctor's software? I was just wondering how the process works of registering with each insurance company.. thanks

No, you need to however change the billing agent with Medicare.

As a billing company that works from home, do I need a billing provider # for the insurance companies, or what do I need so that I can bill for these providers from my home?

You are not a provider, therefore you will not have a provider #.

Where do I get the forms to file with the insurance company the change in Billing Agent? What information will I need to supply the insurance company to change this information? I just want to make sure that I am following the insurance company guidelines to make the changes. When I get a client what is the next step that I need to take to notify the insurance company that I will be doing the billing for the provider?

Please help!!

The form type will vary depending on the provider type I always use this link to obtain the most updated forms because they change periodically and Medicare wont accept out of date forms.

https://www.cms.gov/CMSForms/CMSForms/list.asp?filtertype=dual&datefiltertype=&datefilterinterval=&filtertype=keyword&keyword=855&intNumPerPage=10&cmdFilterList=Show+Items

Good Luck!
