Bookeeping
« on: August 11, 2011, 11:45:57 AM »
Hi,

I am new to the industry and just started out the company. I have have a client that is asking me if I do bookkeeping. I was wondering is this something that is usually offered by a medical billing company? I don't know too much about bookkeeping. It is the first time someone have asked me, and I was wondering if this is something that takes too much time and not sure how much I could charge for a service like that. Any suggestions and recommendations? Thanks..

The bookkeeping is more for someone to do in-house, I would not recommend doing the Accounts payable if you have not done it before and it's really not a part of your functions as a billing service. The Accounts payable is more the duty of the office manager or accountant.

Yes, that is what I thought too. My client is willing to have me meet up with her account to learn the bookkeping and do it for her. She knows I am just a billing company. i just thought it could be maybe an opportunity to expand my business by offering bookkeping to other clients. But it does seem like a lot of work when i researched. I don't know if it is worth the time I will put into doing a service that is not part of my billing services. Is this something other billing companies are offering? Or is it more something a practice management company is offering? I just don't want to lose the opportunity but in the same time I don't want to spend so much time doing this that I can't get other billing clients in the future. What are you advice on this?

Even with full practice management, the accounts payable is not really a "routine" function/service. I have never offered it because I do think it's just too much work and I also think there needs to be a more hands on approach from the office when handling all the bookeeping.. you are talking deposits, accounts payable, payroll, etc. It's just not a routine service, if you want to add it as an extension to your services I guess you could as long as you feel confident enough and also I would say, in my opinion, it would a service worthy of it's own pricing for a whole separate service.
