Question
I am an independent Massage Therapist in the State of Georgia. Can I bill Insurance Companies directly?

Answer
Hi,
LMT’s can usually only bill for workers' comp or no-fault patients. I am not aware of any commercial insurance carriers who credential LMT’s independently yet.

LMTs can also be credentialed under USDOL as individual providers, which may be considered under the umbrella of Workers' Compensation but is for Federal Employees, such as mail carriers, etc.

If you are going to try and bill insurance company directly at the very least you will need submit your EIN# to them first using a w-9.
