coding well woman and OB ultrasound
« on: February 17, 2009, 07:49:00 PM »
Can I code a routine well woman exam, and an OB ultrasound during the same visit, and get paid for both services? Or is the ultrasound considered global, and that would make the preventative visit part of the global visit as well?

Hi,

As per my knowledge As per CMS guidlines , During The PREGNANCY period Preventive Care service are Not consider , So most of the Dr Will postpone the visit till the Pt get DELIVERED and Billed accodingly,

So Preventive Service rarely Billed with OB-US,

if the patient have any complication she can Bill E/M visit  for that treatment with 25 Modifier and OB-US code.

Thanks Sri.

I agree, I have not seen too many OB's due a preventative visit during the pregnancy.  As Sri said, they wait till after delivery and due the preventative visit then.

What if their preventative care is done on their very first OB visit to determine whether the pregnancy is valid

When you say valid I'm assuming you mean verify the pregnancy.  If the test comes back positive, then I would say it's the first OB visit, if it comes back negative, it would be preventative with a pregnancy check.
