They are treated like other WC Cases, make sure you have the open case #, adjusters name, etc. You can usually contact them to find out what is needed. I did a a few WC cases with mental health providers, my clients would also try and obtain an LOP when possible (Letter of protection).

We have done a few WC mental health claims in NY.  Even though NY has Wc forms, they accept the mental health claims on the CMS 1500.  Call to make check with the carrier.  The codes are the same (icd9 & cpt).

I have a question along similiar lines...we just rec'vd our first WC claim from a family practice located in TN. Can we bill it out on a CMS 1500 form? or is it best to call and find out?

Thanks,
Charity

Each state is different.  I'm not sure for TN.  Most states accept the CMS 1500, but require office notes attached.  Some do require their special forms.  Best to call to verify.
