insurance verification
« on: July 28, 2011, 03:23:43 PM »

  Hi,

I was just wondering how do you guys do the insurace verification if a doctor wants you (the billing company) to do it? Do you ALWAYS do it in advance -prior from reservation? My account is a dentist and sometimes she takes patients the same day if they walk in so I was just wondering if you check insuance benefits for patients on the same day as well? The reason I am asking is because my account wants the billing company to the insurance verification and I am just wondering what would be the most efficient way to do this and keep organized. So I was just wondering how you guys do it, so I can have some ideas to present to my account...Thanks..

It is always better if you do it prior to the visit for obvious reasons.  If the provider takes walk ins that makes it a little more difficult.  Personally I don't like doing the verifications mostly for that reason.  They fax them over and then call until you get the info.  But when we do verification we have the provider fax them over, then we put them in a certain colored folder (red in our office) and they go to whoever is doing them that day.  Once they are done they fax them back and then file them.  The red folder is easy to spot in the office.

My provider's staff has procedure in place which allows them to pre-screen each patient when they call in for an appt. the pre-screening contains all the info I need to verify benefits. they will put the date they need it by (appt date) on top and I work in date order. If a patient gets an appt on the same day and if it can be done, I do it, usually there is time as long as they fax the pre-screening to me in time, in some cases they will do those urgent ones themselves and send me the benefits to load into the system.
