Hello, I have a LPC-S who wants to hire LMFT's and LCDC's (fully licensed) to to work under her. They will only be temp because they are also LPC-I's. When they finish their hours they will move on to other employment. Can the LPC-S stay and ind provider and credential with carriers and take resp and bill under her NPI for these providers or does she need to become a group? If she becomes a group and ends up being the only person in the group would she then need to change to an ind with the insurance carriers?

Thanks

I do not believe that she can do that.  Laws do vary from state to state and also each insurance carrier has their own rules/guidelines that must be considered as well, but I do not believe that she can bill under her NPI for those services performed by the other professionals.

We have a medical psychologist and lpc in our office.  One of the lpc's is a lpc-s.   even with them being licensed our mp signs off on everything.   we also have lpc-i and phd -i.  in our state, the unlicensed (interns) are billed under mp.
if they are licensed depending on insurance you can file under them.   if a patient is seen by lpc here and has medicare, we have to file under mp.  most other insurances the lpc is contracted.    but you must see your state rules.  etc.
