We have an inpatient whose wife is the guardian. She is asking for all invoices for her husbands stay. He is a workmans comp claimant who is going to court soon. I am being told that the wife is not entitled to a copy of the charges because they are property of his WC insurance comp.
Can you help? I believethe wife has rights to see what is being charged.
HELP!!! :-\

No, she doesn't. If you have something stating NOT to, don't. You need patient's consent.

Thanks for your reply. We do have a signed authorization from her husband granting her access to all HPI. If he asked for the billing, would he be entitled to it? Could he get a copy of the UB04 we send? What they want is an itemized listing of services such as OT PT.  We create an itemized listing that really doesnt go to the payor.
