: Patient Billing of a Claim
: Prasad May 13, 2015, 03:37:54 PM
If there are 4 line items in a claim, out of which three line items were paid and there are patient balances applied as per the EOB. One line item was denied and can be appealed with the insurance for payment. Can we still bill the patient for the patient balance or should we wait and bill the patient only after the fourth line item is processed based on the appeal?

You could do either. In my office, we use remainder statements, so anything that is paid has the balance transferred to the statement, and the patient is billed. Appealed line(s) of a claim get billed out when they get paid. There are some instances when I will hold sending out a statement until all lines are paid for a claim, but it is rare.

Depends..could be partial appeal but you don't really say what line item was denied or why.
