: Medicare and non-par Medicaid

I am going to start billing for a new client who participates in Medicare but not with Colorado Medicaid. He would like to see a patient who has both Medicare and Medicaid. I am not sure if we can bill the patient for the Medicare deductible and copay. I've gotten mixed responses and figure you all could give me a definite answer.

Contact your state Medicaid but no, most likely if you see the patient you will not be able to balance bill with Medi/Medi (Medicare/Medicaid).

Confirm that though with your state's Medicaid.

I would suggest to contact the state Medicaid either. Though it may sound logical to bill the patient as the provider is not enrolled, practically, it would very difficult to deal with such patients and collect money as you may have to explain about this situation every time a statement is sent.
Instead, the provider may try for a "crossover only enrollment" that way we can confidently take action based on the remittance advise.
