Has anyone every done ambulance billing and if so, what are the requirements. Is there anything special that I need to know. I want to bid on a contract, but want to make sure I qualify for it. Any information from all is greatly appreciated.

I do not know ambulance billing well but I do know that your software must be able to handle the idiosyncrasies of this specialty. Suggest you look online and read about it at Medicare. That should give you a good understanding of it to start.

Assume that you mean emergency transport. Some companies also supply non emergency transport which is covered by Medicaid in some cases; for instance transportation for dialysis patients.

Good luck.

Also, if you Google ambulance billing for your Medicare Carrier, you should get some good information.

I hope someone who has had ambulance billing experience shows up. I wish I could help further. the info that I would give you would just be from Internet searches.

Ambulance billing is a different beast. We have a great Ambulance billing area that's been updated for 2014 in our subscriber area. www.billerswebsite.com
there's terminology, coding, modifiers, updates, Medicare info, medical necessity info. Etc. We also have links to ambulance billing software systems as well.

Ambulance billing is done on CMS 1500 forms using HCPCS codes beginning with "A".  They are available online if you want to familiarize yourself with the codes.  This link allows you to download a fee schedule from CMS that shows the codes and a lot of other helpful information:

There are also two levels of modifiers and a lot of medical necessity criteria that has to be met.

RCC,

Thanks for the kind words.  We will keep you in mind.  We are sometimes contacted by a provider that for whatever reason we do not wish to take on.  Sometimes it's simply timing, we are overloaded and cannot think of taking a new account.  Sometimes it's strictly location, or size of the account.  We will definitely consider you!
