hit off craigslist, leery of scam?
« on: August 05, 2011, 02:56:03 PM »
Hi I posted an ad for my company on craigslist last night under resumes/jobs wanted. I got a reply today but I'm not sure it's legit. This is all it says:

"I've been trying to get in contact with you about coming in next week, but for some reason I don't think you are getting my emails. Is there some way we can schedule a time thats convenient for you? Please let me know, and thanks in advance!

Kim C."

No name of a company or anything. And the email address is publicworksrose716@hotmail.com. Not sure why someone from public works would be responding to a medical billing ad. Any thoughts????

Thanks!

Sounds like a scam because if they were trying to reach you and your contact info is there with a phone number they can call and leave a message.  You could even call that comp and ask if someone works there by that name to verify but it sounds like a scam.  With craigslist you will get those msgs with any ad you post.  Some people like it, some people don't, just be cautious and use wisdom with the site.

One of many reasons I don't have much confidence in craigslist. Another thing I would caution people about is their privacy.. MANY people even after they have left craigs list report their spam has doubled, even tripled, that is  because of their search bot's.. if you post an ad for example about doing medical billing, you will find your inbox inundated with emails about medical billing and any other relative thing, they take your ad's and use the keywords and categories and let third party's have access (and I don't care if they say they don't..they do!)  Ebay does it to, so does paypal (paypal is the worst!!)

If you really want to use craigslist, I recommend an email address ONLY for use with craigslist. IMO I also would not link them to any website in your ad, instead put in your ad: References and additional company information available upon request.

I just want to let you guys know. That I went through about 100 emails answering ads with craigslist. I received my first client off of this. I say it does work; you just have to make your letter appealing to them. The contract begins Jan. 10, 2012. I'm so excited.

I received clients off of craigslist too. It all depends on how comfortable you are with it.   I have an email set aside just for those ads so that way I don't have to go thru that spam crap.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.  I was not a Craigs list advocate.  I like to hear when something I don't think works does work.  Congrats to you guys!
