Does anyone know how the billing works for a new Home Health Agency?  Can we bill retroactively after we get Medicare certified?  We won't be Medicare certified until October but we will start seeing patients in April.  Can we bill for the patients in October that we see in April?  I cannot get a clear answer anywhere I call.
Thanks

Once you are Medicare certified, you will be able to bill for all dates of service as long as you tell Medicare "We will begin seeing Medicare patients on 4/1/12".  Your application has a place to state when you will begin treating patients.  Once you are certified you can bill all, from that date forward.  BTW April to October seems like an awfully long time.  Make sure your application is perfect the 1st time!  Any mistake just slows down the process.

When you get your acceptance letter it will have a participation date on it.  You will be able to bill for any dates of service from that date forward.  Like DMK said it will be based on what you requested on your app AND when your app was received.  You can't request back more than 30 days from the date of receipt.
