Marketing new doctors/medical practices
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:42:35 PM »
I am working on marketing and I was wondering where I should go to find new doctors and new practices.  I have been googling and using the yellow pages online.  I am trying to look for press releases in news papers as well.  I don't want to send a doctor a card to congratulate them on their new practice if it isn't new.  Are their any other avenues?  I do not want to pay for a lists if I can do the work for free.  Any suggestions?

Queen What is your specialty? Do you offer any unique services. Don't look for "new providers" seek new ways to promote YOU!! Every billing service does relatively the same thing, so you have to find out what is unique and different about your service that may encourage a provider to go with you. I had only ONE new practice, and although the billing is clean, they can be difficult to work with. This provider opened doors long before he was credentialed with any insurance company and that hindered payments from coming in. He decided to go with an in-house biller and after two weeks realized he made a mistake. Most new providers are looking to save money so they initially hire a Practice Manage first, who basically does everything until the revenue comes in.

Well right now I am specializing in billing for chiropractors then mental health. I have been searching for lists of Chiropractors.  I am also looking for their email address so that I can email market them but I am not trying to pay those outrageous fees.

Mental Health is good, there is a wide range to Mental health billing. I just signed in November (Substance Abuse & Mental Health) billing on the UB04. I used to bill for community health, respite care, community supports. Market to Personal Care Services if you know that billing. Its very straight forward and if you know the medicaid in your state, it can be mostly that. Because reimbursements are low, unless they are HUGE, they don't like to hire full time billers. I make about 48.75 an hr off of the lady that I bill for doing PCS. She was thrilled to get my business because she kept losing employees because she only needed part-time help. The economy bad people need full time.  I personally don't like Chiro...too much work for such little pay, but if you bill a Flat Fee, it will be perfectly fine. % based......heck no!!  Learn a new specialty, that will open up your marketing area. There are some specialties that hire assistants that also do the billing (like Chiro's)

Like I said, don't just look for NEW PRACTICES, the existing ones are open to moving their services. Get in the door and look at their AR. AR-recovery is one of the BEST ways to a provider's account. When you discover the losses he is getting from his current biller....he is more inclined to change over to you. When I see a majority (30% ) at the 90 day mark I work my majic on the provider.

"We can recover this money for you while your staff works the current claims. This helps them get caught up, while we get this income in for you" I tell them it can be 90 days of clean up--unless its a HUGE job. After 90 days, if the AR is still 30% over 90, he has a problem with his billers and i'm marketing to him/her for FULL PRACTICE MANAGEMENT!

I got the booklet for flat fee billing ( which I will probably use with all clients..fee splitting is illegal here in california plus per claims seems to complicated).  For mental health billing I will need to learn the UB 40 form really well.

Do you recommend other specialities for newbies?

OK, great--per claim isn't difficult, but who in the HECK wants to keep up with how many claims you send out per month...UUGH
No, you only need to know the UB04 depending on the type of services you are billing. I bill facility charges so I have to use it. Ironically some payors make me use the cms 1500, so its tricky...not really good for the new biller

Some DME is great for newbies. AFO's KaFO's, diabetic supplies,
General Intern is pretty straight forward billing

Dyann, you can also look in the forum for previous posts on % billing and flat fee billing as there have been many formula's posting. You really don't need a book for this :)  The formula is very basic and can be based on a few things *Your choice :)
