Omnipaque

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if you can bill the contrast material, we are using Omnipaque, separately from the fluoroscopic guidance (77003)?  This is in our private office.  We had not been, but heard we can...when I read the descriptive of the code, I am still confused.

Also the reimbursement for the Omnipaque is so low, we are actually losing money...the code we have been using is the Q9965.  Medicare's payment limit is only $1.387 per 1ML.

Any suggestions on how to recoup our losses....

Thanks much....Mary Kaye

The contrast material should be billed on a separate line.  Not all carriers will allow it separately, but you should bill it out that way.  Many will.

Medicare's reimbursement for these materials is many times lower than cost.  I'm not aware of any way around this one in particular.  I'm hoping another member has come across this.   :)
