I'm not sure what you mean by 'opening package'.  Do you mean for a new patient who is starting treatment?

For Workers' comp you should contact the state comp board to find out if they need to get credentialed, or how the state of Michigan handles workers' comp.  Some states the provider doesn't need to do anything, others they need to fill out an app, and others must be in a network of chosen providers that they have to request entry into thru the carrier.  It varies by state.

Don't forget to go directly to the Orthopedists and W/C clinics who do the referrals.  A P.T. will never be the primary treater on a W/C case and needs to get established with the primary treaters to get the referrals.

In California the primary can send patients where they want to as long as it's authorized.  The Secondary treater doesn't have to be in the MPN (Provider network) for the insurance company.

It is an excellent idea to contact the insurance companies to see about getting on a "preferred" list, but ultimately the primary doctors will send patients to the places that get the best results!  We have many P.T.'s in our town and we refer to only 2 because they have gotten the best results for our patients.
