: registering with state

Hi Michele,
I recently became certified with the state of NJ, that is a requirement to be a third party biller and be able to bill for a doctor in that state.
I live in PA but I am tri-state Like 20 minutes from Port Jervis NY and 15 min. From Montaque NJ.
When I became certified they sent me a letter saying I have to register with the NJ Dept. of Treasury to do business in NJ, but I think they are missing the fact that I am a service based buiness and no sales tax will be charged.
I know you said you bill for different states, I was wondering do you have to register with the dept. of Treasury in all the states you bill for? I am confused!

Since they stated that in the letter I would recommend you call the NJ Dept. of Treasury to clarify, just in case they notified them of your certification.  We have not ever had to register with any Dept of Treasury.

Let me know how you make out.

Michele
I am sending you the links in New York and New Jersey to take a look at and tell me what you think.

Because my buisness is in PA and I am an LLC I would be considered a foreign LLC when filing.

This is very confusing!

I'm afraid you are going to have to call the NJ Dept of Treasury to ask.  The websites only explain how to apply.  I really don't believe you need to register with them for a billing service, but since the letter stated you did, I would call to verify.  Better safe than sorry.
