I use Kareo for two of my remote billing jobs. It is robust when it comes to features, reports, procedure macros, etc. I found it easy to learn, but I have used many, many PM/EMR systems over the years. There are three things about it that I hate:

1. It has an internal edit system that is more often than not incorrect. And there is no way to turn it off, apparently, or correct it. You can bypass it by not scrubbing your claims, but still...if you do scrub,it should work right. It will tell you codes need modifiers when they don't, that dx's aren't covered when they are, etc.

2. It considers each line of service for a DOS to be a separate "claim". This can be a hassle when you need to fix something with a claim, or make a note on a claim, etc.

3. Entering or deleting dx's for claim lines can be tedious. I use a lot of procedure macros because of this.

I use Kareo for three clients and love it.. some things to consider however in reply to Kristen's post...

I have not experienced a problem with this.

That's correct because this is to protect the "true" audit trail which is EXTREMELY important

Again, this type of edit is tedious as it should be because it's there to protect the audit trail. if a claim needs to be corrected, and dx's need to be changed it's essential to create that new claim/correction again to protect the audit trail.

I get what you are saying about the audit trail, but no other PM software I use has these issues that Kareo does, and they all are fully compliant when it comes to audit trails like Kareo is.

Take the removing of diagnoses...when I say it is tedious, I mean from a typing standpoint. You can't backspace to remove a diagnosis...you need to highlight it in essence, and hit delete. I would much rather there was an area to enter the diagnoses, then you could check or uncheck diagnoses pointers, or type the diagnosis pointers in.

And the edit thing...you are lucky you haven't dealt with it. It is ridiculous. It only happens when I bill IM claims. It will tell me that screening codes like cardiac, BMI, etc, "need a modifier", when they absolutely do not. Then I have to click on the warning that comes up saying I am bypassing the edit, and click again that I do not want a copy of the warning sent to the notes section of the claim. All that extra clicking for no reason drives me nuts.

I have not used Kareo but I know what you mean about "all that extra clicking for no reason".  We've worked in systems like that.  It is amazing how much extra time a simple task can take.  I feel for ya!
