timely filing
« on: July 14, 2008, 06:08:34 PM »
Hi,

I work for a small chiropractic office.  Somehow in the chain of command we overlooked submitting the necessary paperwork for authorization.  The insurance company is ACN. I called them today and they said to submit all necessary paperwork and a letter as to when we would like the begin date to start for this patient.

Should I state that we mistakenly overlooked submitting this paperwork or make up an excuse?  I don't know how to handle this situation, because it is for 9 dates of service.

Help........

Thanks, Cathy

Michele

Cathy,

The best policy is to be honest.  I would write up the appeal and word it something like "due to a clerical error the paperwork was mistakenly not submitted properly (or timely, or something)"  There is no guarantee they will post date the authorization but it's certainly worth a try.  We have found providers in this position, filed the appeal for them, and in many cases they will back date the auth.

Good luck!
