Working a full-time job
« on: August 03, 2009, 06:45:16 PM »
I have not gotten my first client yet and I am kinda nervous about it because I am still working an 8-5 job. How can I begin to fulfill the needs of my clients while I am working hours that they might be needing me?

It's a catch 22 situation and it depends on what your goals are. I worked full time but after obtaining client #3 it was just impossible and I had to make a decision.
I do know that if you plan to grow your business, there are just too many things that have to be done during normal business hours to accommodate both a full time day job and a business. Eventually you will need to decide. When I did work full time I used my lunch hour to do the things I had to do during normal business hours, but there's only so much you can do in an hour.

Ditto.  No easy answer.  This is probably one of the most difficult times in getting going.  You need the money from the day job, but you need the time to get the business started.  Like Linda, I used lunch/breaks and I had Alice not working the same hours that could be available to receive/make phone calls.

Yes that is where I am also. If I wasn't a single mom, I would have stopped but I am the only means of income in my home.

Pay_My_Claims how many providers do you bill for? How long did it take you to obtain your first provider?

I have a pediatrician that I bill for, but he was acquired prior to getting my business started. I officially started in June, and just got a psychiatrist to bill for. I can honestly state that I feel if I had the opportunity to market full time I would have acquired my clients by now. I know someone who unfortunately lost their job in March, but their business took off after that. For medical reasons I can't leave my job now, because the cobra plan would be too high, and I am about to undergo some costly procedures. I am blessed to have help in place so that I can work til the end of the year and make decisions after that. I got some great advice from a friend and I am planning on working on that tonight. Also I am about to take some time off of work so that I can do what I do best....IN PERSON INTERVIEW!!
