does it differ by specialty how fast is the claim paid? i have been billing for a general surgeon using office ally. with a claim with no errors it still takes quite a while to get the claim paid. sometimes it is 2 wks, but most of the time over a month.. now the psychiatrist i am doing a cash recovery uses some other clearinghouse and going through her old claims and eobs, it takes 2-3 weeks.. is it me, is it the clearinghouse or the specialty?? how can i get the claims paid faster? also, michigan medicaid is sending me RAs now with the invoice date in november 2009 (!!!), so over 4 months "in process".. what can i do??

I have not noticed that electronic claims are processed faster or slower based on the specialty, or the clearinghouse.  But I have seen claims in general processed slower based on specialty, and surgery is a common one.  Many times claims can go thru an insurance companies processing system without needed a human, but surgical claims will usually require a human to push them thru, and therefore they take longer.  Also, many times they will request the op report.

I would examine the clearinghouse reports and EOB's and most times you can find out where the delay is.
