Orthopedics - billing 99058
« on: October 05, 2008, 03:53:57 PM »
Hello,

Can someone please send me an accurate description of what/how/when billing CPT 99058 entails. The practice is orthpedic surgeon. The State is Maryland and really am looking for the Medicare (CMS) description.

The office has open slots for add in's, but from what I have read - you cannot use this code for that purpose - its purpose is to be used when the physician is with a patient and is interruped due to an emergency situation.  Cannot locate anything on Medicare's site.

Thank you very much

The description in the CPT book states "service(s) provided on an emergency basis in the office, which disrupts other scheduled office services"

Using it for 'add-on's' is not what it is meant for.  You have set aside a certain number of slots for add-ons so they really shouldn't be disrupting the provider.

I don't have anything written up specifically by MD Medicare, but if you go by the description in the cpt book using it for add-ons is not appropriate.
