: working from home

I work for a 6 provider family practice.  Occasionally, I feel that I need to catch up entering charges from fee tickets and instead of going into the office on the weekend or working into the evenings, I would like to take the fee tickets home with me and enter them from my computer at home.  Is this against HIPPA regulations?  I have been told that it is okay to enter payments from home, but not charges from a fee ticket.  Your thoughts?

I'm not a HIPAA specialist, but it is my understanding that you can take you PHI as long as you log it out at the office, log it back in, and also have it clearly labeled as PHI, Confidential Medical Records, etc.  You also have to keep the information protected while in your possession.

It should also be taken into consideration the policy and compliance plan the office you work for has in place. It may be against their policy or there might be steps to take to ensure compliance and above all you want to CYA as well.
I think I would also go as far as signing a seperate agreement and BA with the office even if you are an employee..JUST to add some protection to your own butt!
