dx code 847.0
« on: December 17, 2008, 02:22:55 PM »
Hello Michele,

I have a couple patients that my dr used a dx code of 847.0 on and he said that it definitely wasn't an accident and I was wondering which 700 code I would used for neck neuromuscular for chiropractic use to bill it out to insurances.

Thanks a million

Kim

The 847.0 is not always related to an accident but it definitely triggers many insurance carriers to request accident information.  You can either answer them with a description of what caused the onset of the cervical strain, or try using 723.1 which is cervicalgia or neck pain.

Michele,

Thanks for the information and help,  I have one more what would the dx code in the 700's be for 847.1 and how do I figure out how they cross so I can figure this out without bugging you all the time.

Thanks

Kim

724.1 is for thoracic pain.  Basically you just replace the 'sprain/strain' with pain and find that diagnosis.  Instead of thoracic sprain, use thoracic pain. :)
