: Inappropriate posts
: Michele May 08, 2009, 09:59:32 AM
I know I've posted this before, but I feel it's necessary to post it again.  I've been getting some personal messages asking about it.

As we try to provide a great atmosphere for billers to come and share information and have a laugh now and then, we unfortunately also attract spammers who post inappropriate posts.  We have enhanced our sign up process to try to eliminate these, but unfortunately some are persistent and get thru anyway.  We try to monitor the forum several times a day to remove the inappropriate posts.  Please bare (no pun intended) with us!  We appreciate your understanding.  :)

That is the only thing I hate is so many people want to inflict their ridiculousness on others. I know it is hard to do, but we appreciate every attempt you do to decrease the a$$ers..oops spammers that come in.

Michele, I am sure many are very grateful for the hard work that goes into managing these communities.. I KNOW I DO!
Many thanks. I usually can spot them right at the topic and I just don't open the post. A lot of these spammers get in using spam bots and there's not much you can do but keep on it. SO THANK YOU !!!!

I've noticed that too recently and it is frustrating, I don't see why people feel the need to do things like that! Thanks for keeping things clean on here.

It is a neverending job to delete this #@#$#@.  We are actually considering switching to a system where the posts have to be approved.  That will just cause a delay in the legitimate posts.

Michelle, I'm on a lot, if you would like some help I'd be happy to help. I'm familiar with the php format. just might be a better solution to take on a few more moderators rather than have posts have to be reviewed.

Holler to me at linda@billerswebsite.com if you would like some help

It is helpful if you see inappropriate posts NOT TO REPLY!!  I am checking several times a day and I know Michele and Alice do too, I'm sure between all of us we are removing hundreds a day!  When you reply to them it just makes it more difficult and on top of that, their spamming software extracts your profile and email address and you will start getting a ton of spam. Even if your email is hidden, these spammers software is sophisticated enough to extract them.

If you notice them, click on the "notify" button, DO NOT REPLY.. Please?

Ok, I usually hit marked as "read" so I won't see them, I hope this is ok. Are we removing the offenders???

I only have privileges to remove posts.  On other forums I manage I delete the user but it proves to be fruitless because their software goes and creates names in bulk. I do find it helpful to set the flood level higher so their software will time out if they try and post one after the other at once.  Those are admin features I don't have access here to do.

People don't realize how hard these forum owners work.. my hats off to Michelle and Alice.. WE APPRECIATE YOU!

We try to remove the offenders but as Linda said it seems futile.  And honestly sometimes the post is soooooo offensive that I click delete before I look at the poster.  Anyway we appreciate Linda helping us to monitor the content.  We were considering switching to a moderated forum where every post would have to be approved.  We hate to do that.  It takes away the community feeling and the immediate responses which in some cases are important.  So for now this seems to be working.

Thanks again for your help Linda and all of you who help to build this forum into a great place to share.

It's MY PLEASURE TO Remove them $&$&*(#$&@$^  :)

Also .. sometimes you will see someone post .. "Hello, I like your forum" or "Hi, I'm a new member"   They are the ones not quite ready for the big time spammer software so they go in and start posting small posts so they can move up in status and spam. clever little creatures..
