: My first appointment with a prospective client
: patricia1016 May 21, 2008, 08:29:34 PM
OMG,

I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I have an appointment to meet with a doctor on Friday morning. I am not sure what I should bring with me. This doctor is new, he is a physical therapy doc, started about 4 months ago. He has a billing service however, they have not been able to collect a penny for him. I am unsure as to all of the circumstances. Understandably, he is very frustrated. I want to be able to sell myself. I have been doing this for 17 yrs, however not with my own business. I know I need to sell myself, and am very confident of the job I perform, just not sure how to go about it and with what visual aid.

Any pointers would be appreciated. I did tell him it would be a couple of weeks  before I could submit electronically, and that I am unsure of as well. I should have my software by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Sorry this is so long, but my head is spinning. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Just an FYI for anyone getting ready to go on their first consultation with a doc....

It went great! I was a bundle of nerves before I got there, but then they just disappeared. I am glad it is over.  :)

So, as long as you let your knowledge overcome your fear you will do just fine.

By the way, I took a business card, brochure and a copy of my service contract.

Hi Patricia,

Congratulations!! Sounds like you did great.
Sorry I didn't read your post before you went on your appointment.  It was a busy week here and I just got a chance to check up on the posts.  The most important thing in your interview is to act confident and it sounds like you aced that.
Good luck in getting the account.

Congrats Patti!  Would you be willing to share what you have in your service contract?  I am in the process of writing mine.  I have a billing service that I do part time in addition to my full time billing job.
Thanks!
Stephanie

Just curious, have you heard from the potential client yet?  Did you get the job?

No I did not land that client. I did follow up with a letter, but came down with pneumonia and was out of commission for a couple of weeks and never pursued it any further.

Don't give up on it yet.  We've had some clients talk about signing up and meet with us several times over a long period of time before we actually signed them up.  This is a process for some providers.  Meanwhile, keep looking for other possibilities.  Many times an account just doesn't work out and soon after something even better comes along.  Marketing can be a tough part of the business, but when you are starting out it is the most important part.

You may try calling him back and asking if he has made a decision yet.  You can offer to take one or two of the difficult cases and see if you can't get them paid for him.  It's worth a call.

Good Luck!!
