Medical billing Associations
« on: February 10, 2011, 05:03:41 PM »
What associations do you belong too?  I know Charlene mentioned associations and I am getting involved with the Chamber of Commerce out here in my area.  What medical billing associations do you belong to?

I am going to join the PMBA very soon.  I've looked at a few others, but am not sure if I will join any others or not.

Are many others in more than one association?

HBMA is one, however there is a $50 application fee and then you have to pay another membeship fee.  The fees are based upon the amount of employees and other criteria.  They do offer a billing newsletter and other certifications as well.

Joining the Chamber of Commerce is GREAT!! Many physicians are members in my area. Where I live we have nothing but Hospitals around. If you know NC, then you know one of the largest hospitals is in this state. I worked for them for 10 years. I am also becoming a member of my son's football club. Its a GREAT marketing strategy for me as they call your name out at every football game. There are a few physician groups that support the team as well. They also have you listed on all the flyers, and programs

OK, Alice and I have really tried to stay out of this.  We have tried to create a forum where others can come to learn and contribute in a helpful fashion to others in this industry.  At this point, we feel that the posts are getting very personal, and are no longer helpful to the other members of this forum.  We are asking that all involved please just stop.  And please don't feel the need to respond this post.

P.S.  My name has one 'l'.  Medauthor has two 'll's.  Just want to clarify as sometimes my name is referred to incorrectly.

Thank you for your compliance to this request.

Are you referring to this thread? because I thought it was helpful as I was interested in finding out which billing associations are good to belong to.  But, I do agree with staying on topic and keeping out the personal stuff.  Btw, thank you for creating this forum.

We were referring to any thread that got off topic and got personal.  There were two threads actually.  There are many opinions out there, and we welcome them all.  Some are great, some we don't agree with, but all are welcome.  Just because I may not like an idea or opinion doesn't make it wrong or not effective.  Something that works wonderful for one, may not work worth a darn for someone else.  I've written a book on marketing, but I love to hear others ideas and what it resulted in.  I also like to know the bad experiences so I can take them into consideration as well.  As long as someone can benefit from the info, it's more than welcome.  We are thankful to all who take time to post, including the newbies!  Sometimes the simple questions help us more experienced people as well.  I know there is more for me to learn and I don't ever want to close my mind to it.

Are any of you involved with other billing forums our associations?  I am trying to find many to put myself out there and gain all the knowledge I can about this industry.

I have tried a couple other forums, but honestly haven't found any that keep my interest.  Linda may be able to suggest some associations.  I don't like to say anything when I don't know first hand.

As I said in another thread, I've actually found it MORE helpful to just stick to local networking. Certainly the forum's are great, nothing to lose there. I'm just really disappointed in the associations that have embraced offshore outsourcing.. very disappointed! You can also look to see if you can find a chapter  with the National Association of professional women, http://www.napw.com, and there is another I believe for women owned businesses, I just can't think of their name.
I look at it this way.. sure it's great to network and have discussions with other billers, but I prefer diversity and networking of OTHER types of businesses. For example, in our chamber we have accountants, collection services, etc. i get more from that type of networking than I do with just those in my industry. JMO   ;)
