Claim deadlines
« on: October 16, 2008, 11:43:31 PM »
Hi, I am trying to help a provider clean up old a/r and some of the claims are past the filing deadlines.  Is there any recourse or appeal that I can try to get these claims paid if the time for filing claims have exhausted?

We have found ourselves in the same position in the past.  There are a couple of things we have done that have worked.  If you several claims for one insurance carrier, and there is a provider rep for your area, I would contact the provider rep.  Many times if you explain the situation the provider rep will allow you a one time exception.  They may have you send in all the claims to their attention and they will take care of getting them processed.  This has worked well for us.

If the claims were previously submitted, you should see if they were rejected.  Sometimes the rejection is within the timely filing so you are better off working from the rejection instead of resubmitting.

If the claims are not on file and there is no provider rep, you should submit the claims to get the timely filing rejection.  Then appeal with a letter of explanation.  If the provider has any proof that they claims were previously submitted, attach it to the appeal.

Good luck.
