DME Fee
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:41:06 PM »
Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could direct me towards how to bill a client for DME billing. I'm based in NY and we don't charge a percentage for our billing services. A client of mines wants us to do their DME billing, which we know how to do. I have 2 young ladies who I hired from DME billing company. We know our LCD's etc. But I'm just making sure there is no difference in how we go about charging them? The client wanted us to charge them per claim is this OK, as long as we don't do a percentage, right? I know it sounds like a silly question, but I just wanted to make sure as this will be our FIRST DME client. All my clients are specialist and surgeons and we get paid a set fee per month with room for fluctuations, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Don't worry. Be happy.

So long as your fees are not based on a percentage you would be fine. A per claim fee wouldn't be bad, if your going to do FPM then maybe you also want to consider a flat fee which you can base on an hourly rate. This will be a better fit, IMHO, because you have employees.

What would be a good percentage to charge for DME and pharmacy?

First I must say that % billing is illegal in some states.  You need to check the state you will be billing in.  It will also depend on the area of the country you are in, and other variables.  The average billing services in the US charge from 4% - 13%.  Personally, 4% is very low, 13% is rather high.  It also may depend on the size of the charges, what services you are doing, etc.

Sorry but there isn't a straight answer.
