Hi I work for a small chiro office.
What is the best way to keep track of a patient's deductibles and what they owe for the new year?
It is all so confusing.

Some practice management systems allow you to track the patients deductibles in the program. If you don't have that capability I would write it somewhere on the patient's card, or chart, depending on what system your office uses.
Since we are a billing service we don't have to worry too much about this. Maybe another forum member has a great system they will share!

Unless they have a separate deductible for chiropractic benefits (not aware of policies like that), you will only know by calling the insurance carrier or if they have an online eligibility system. The deductible changes every time a claim gets processed and if he/she is seeing someone other than you, they can meet their deductible outside of your office. I work with DME and we are non-par providers except for Medicare & Medicaid. Since we are non-par clients benefits (ded/coins) are very important to verify. We can do a repair for a client that will run 300.00 but his oon ded is 4000, which makes his basically self pay. When I verify the insurance I call to check the status of his ded/oop/coins and let them know if they have met it. We will try to collect it all up front and bill non-assigned so that if the ins does pay, the client will be reimbursed.
