AdvancedMD and Confused
« on: March 02, 2009, 10:26:40 AM »
Hey There Folks,

We started a billing service from home back in 2006. We found a doctor who was HELL to sign up but we became a doormat to get his business and now after some years are still keeping his business. We've also got a MRI center we bill for. Both these were mostly a problem to sign up because we insisted on AdvancedMD. I honestly love AdvancedMD because I've been using it all this while and I know it's capabilities. And, the biggest reason is that my brother over in Washington can help us bill too because AdvancedMD is web based. Further, now I'm intending to expand and want to hire billers around the city on contract basis and will need a web based solution even more. However, the darn thing costs around $360/mo. per doctor. This almost becomes a deal breaker.

Now, I've not got much experience other than these two. How do you guys tackle this problem? I'm now on medical billing full time for the first time and am scouring for doctors. I found one but he doesn't want to deal with me much because I don't want to work with other programs. The only way I know is that the doctors schedules all this patients in AdvancedMD and I bill for them.

Some other options that come to mind are that I can have the doctor use whatever he/she is used to and simply bill from my end. And not have both of use use the same software.

Another options comes to mind is that we simply bill using the system the doctor is using so far. However, if it's not web based, we are in deep doodoo.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Web based software is great, but we found the same problem with cost being a billing service.  In fact, so far it had prevented us from using one.  The benefits of web based are so good, we have been desperate to find one that was reasonable for us (we have 60 docs, do the math!).  Anyway we recently hooked up with a company that is coming out with a web based software more designed for billing than for offices, but it works for both.  The features are out of this world.  And the cost is VERY REASONABLE.  They don't hit you up for each account you have.

If you complete their short survey, then they contact you.  Here is the link for the survey:

You can also get info at their website:

As far as other options, you can let them use whatever software they want to and just bill from yours.  That is how we've done it for 16 years.  But it does save on data entry if you can have them input and then you bill.

Good luck

I like diversity. A good billing company in today's market won't REQUIRE a specific software. There are so many ways to remain competitive w/out having to turn the client down because you don't use the same software.
I've had clients who use BETTER software than I do. It's just a matter of your experience. Today's outsourcing medical billing company will be diversified rather than proprietary.

I like to thank both of you for the reply.
I kinda lost track of this site. Good thing I found it again.

Thanks Again, I'll keep the diversification idea in mind.

I can agree with you on this Linda. I am just as happy logging in remotely to bill for a client as I am having to have them use my software, it really boils down to the same thing, except I DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM!!

Hi all,

I haven't been faced with this yet but find it interesting.  Is it difficult or confusing to bill remotely using the existing software in a doctors office?  I've worked with about 3 softwares so far but do you find a learning curve with the software before being able to effectively bill using it?

it is always more comfortable to use what you have, but I think if you are computer literate, you should be able to handle any software system that is out there. Most have manuals that you can view. I find a lot of them are very similar in nature that I have used over the years, or have downloaded the trial version when seeking a software to use for my business

I agree with Charlene, if you have used more than one, and don't find it difficult to learn new ones, you should be fine.  I've done it, and didn't have a problem.  Obviously a little hard at first, but quickly learned my way around.

I think it's imperative we learn different softwares.. especially in today's market. Yes there is a learning curve with each one and I've not found any two software alike in regards to operating (features yes, operation NO) they are all different. Being able to work on multiple software's has been the second biggest selling feature to me since so many doctors today do not want to switch softwares or lose their investment.

Wow, this post really shed some light on the software subject for me.   I was looking into AdvancedMD because I've had some potential clients wanting more visibility to whats happening with their claims (even though we let them know that we provide daily, weekly, monthly reports).  So I thought AdvancedMD would be a good option.  Although, the price of the software is a big issue as well.  Its great seeing the flip side of what I have experienced; that offices dont want to use any other software than their own regardless of knowing that it will still give them visibility to the claim statuses.
