Is it true that, getting new business is very competitive than never before ever since the advent of SAAS..The companies used to produce software also got into providing medical billing services as well under the package Software as services?

There are several software companies that also offer billing services as part of their package. Kareo, Athena, and Medisoft come to mind, I am sure there are more. How robust/all-encompassing those services are, I don't know.

I think that just from what I have read on this forum, and other forums, that getting new clients for an existing billing company that is not well established yet, and getting any clients for a completely new billing company is quite difficult.

Just to add on to Kristin's answer, we also have heard that the quality of these services offered by the software companies is not very good.  Hard to reach someone by phone, and not good follow up.  We have heard many people who are not very satisfied.  There is so much more to billing than simply submitting the claims.  I believe a lot of them have off shore services and that is how they can offer their services for a much lower fee.

I don't find that it makes it any more difficult for us to obtain new business however we are established.  The key is to explain to the provider that they get what they pay for.

You are right, Michele, they get what they pay for. Anecdotally, I know of a doctor who had to use Athena for EMR/billing, because it was what was in place when he joined a practice, shortly after the practice signed up with Athena. Long story short, he ended up as the only doctor at the practice, and had to close the doors after less than a year because of the horrible service provided by Athena as the billing company. Personally, I would never allow an EMR company to do billing if I was the doctor. But so many get sucked in, because of the price.
