How do I get reimbursements sent to my office?
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:39:26 PM »
Hello, and thanks for all the help.

Most of my patients would rather get their discount for using their insurance up front rather than paying the full visit price and getting the reimbursement from their insurance company later.

How do I make sure that the reimbursements come to my office rather than to the patient?  Is it a box in some form somewhere?  The representatives at the insurance companies tell me that it's the "assignment of benefits" but I don't know where that is.

Along with assignment of benefits, if patient is receiving a discount, that discount has to be shown on the claim form as well.  If for example you are discounting them $50 and they paid their OOP of let's say $20, you need to either break out the discount amount or make full patient payment reflect $70, NOT $20. Insurance company/patient contract will still require them to pay out of pocket regardless of any discounts and they legally need to receive same discount as patient.
