Michelle,

for x-rays codes 72052 etc...do we need the 26 modifier for billing?

If you are billing the professional component only then you should be using the 26 modifier.

I'm in a chiropractor office .  Is it appropriate to use the professional component.  The Dr. does have his own xray equipment and does read his own x-rays so I would think he should get paid for that time being spent reading the xrays.    I'm really not familiar with this.  Someone told me he should be using this code.

Sounds like he is doing both technical and professional, both taking the xray and reading it.  In that case you wouldn't use a modifier because you are billing the global fee.
