Contracts
« on: July 31, 2009, 12:31:47 PM »
I'm still researching my medical billing business and I have questions regarding the contracts. Can you refer me to any websites that have sample contracts or email one to me Kimberlydc5@hotmail.com. I am also wanting to offer services regarding contract negotiations, ar collections and practice management. How do I determine what to charge if they want to seperate services?

http://www.donself.com/

A good website, but you may still want to consult legal counsel on anything you do that is a binding contract.

Please don't use sample contract.. I'm begging you!  I can't tell you how many billers use these 1-3 page contract samples as their own and end up getting screwed (sorry to be so blunt).  A GOOD .. SOLID.. PROFESSIONAL contract is going to be at LEAST.. MINIMUM of 4-5 pages.  Do it right the first time and don't learn the hard lessons so many others had to learn, Including MYSELF. I will even go as far as to say I think it's irresponsible to put these downloaded samples on the internet or for sale.  In our getting started area we have a comprehensive guideline to help you create your own and tell you what to include based on all the mistakes we made and others have made. Sit down and think of all the things that can go wrong and there's about 3 page right there.  Have a lawyer worry about the verbiage, venue, and legal stuff.   JMO

I can agree with you Linda, thats why they are just guides for me as I would think that is what anyone uses them for. One contract is not a guide for all billing services, as they don't encompass all aspects of what you may offer. I can't speak for the poster, but when mines was designed, I had seen about 10+ examples and saw something different in all of them. It allowed me to think about what I needed to say in my contract. What provisions I needed to be specific about. NOBODY sees my contract because it is specific to my company. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. We are in a buyer beware society and can't take anything for face value. Just as my warning said.....get legal council.

What I tell people to do is sit down and think of all the worst case scenarios they can came up with, write them down, go over all the services offered, define start time, take it to an attorney and let him do the verbiage OR do your own and have an attorney give it a once over. A good attorney will pick it apart.

Just going over old topics to get tips and I like the tip you gave Linda in regards to writing all worse case scenarios down and working from there.  I am going to do this.
