: Voiding a DOS
: mcmsouth October 17, 2014, 04:50:23 PM
A patient wishes to "Void" there DOS because he has not reached his deductible.  Then, allow the wife to become the primary patient and have the claims submitted under the wife, who has reached the deductible.

Will this bring any red flags?  Should this be done at the patients' request?

That would be No, No and No.  The patient is the patient.  Not the spouse, not the child.  Whoever the doctor treated is the patient, their insurance should be billed, regardless if they've met their deductible or not.

The patient is asking you to commit insurance fraud.

Agree, agree, agree with DMK.

Yes, it will raise a red flag, no, it should not be done at the patient's request, and it most definitely screams fraud.

Thanks, I was thinking the same.  That is what I tell the provider.
