UB04 EMERGENCY ROOM BILLING
« on: April 22, 2009, 01:30:26 PM »
In the state of OH we have to do basic registeration no insurance information obtained at ER until physician sees the patient.  Patient is triage by nurse at time of registering but before the physician sees the patient they leave.  Can we legally bill for the nursing triage? If so is this for all payors as laws are different for medicare and medicaid patients

I do not have direct experience with this but I would think the hospital could bill for the facility portion up thru triage, but the physician cannot bill the professional services since they didn't see the patient.

We did sort of the same in NC. It was an effort to cut down on "non" emergent care in the ER. We were able to bill for the triage visit.
