: how do i let the insurance companies know that i will be submitting claims
: pamelawt3 March 29, 2010, 01:50:12 PM
what forms do i use to let the insurance companies- aetna, cigna, medicare,BCBS etc know that i will be filing claims from my home office. i will be using availty and office ally as the clearinghouses and have my forms filled out and ready to go once i have signed my first provider. i just don't know how to inform the insurance companies that i will be submitting claims.

you don't have to let them know. you can bill claims with your lap top in a port-a-potty, it doesn't matter. you are billing as representative of a physician or facility and you are a third party.

Wow!  Somebody is a little wild today!

Anyway, just one small addition.  Technically you are supposed to notify Medicare if you are a billing service.  You do that by completing a CMS form and filling out the billing service section, section 8.  Also, if you are going to submit electronically there is EDI paperwork for Medicare as well.

But you really can do it from a port-a-potty.  Personally, I try not to spend much time in them though, I don't like the smell! :o
