Medicare Submitter ID
« on: February 08, 2016, 09:29:45 PM »
Hi all. We have a new client where we use the doctor's own login to his web-based PM/EMR/Clearinghouse (Office Ally) to bill his claims.  Do we still need to have him sign the Medicare document connecting us to his account to allow us to bill for him?  Medicare is saying no since we're logging in and billing as the dr.  That confuses me.  I always thought we needed to connect every client we bill for to our submitter id, regardless how we bill the claims.
Thanks.

1.  Dr. had to establish an account with Office Ally.

2.  Dr. had to establish an account with his Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC).

3.  Dr. had to give MAC Office Ally's Submitter ID - since Office Ally is the one submitting the Drs. claims to the MAC.

Once 1-3 is done and operational, all work is done through Office Ally.  They submit the claims to the various Insurance Carriers, including Medicare.

Come back with other questions if you have them.

Thanks Richard.  I think I get it.  We don't need to do anything extra for claims we submit through Office Ally under the Dr's login info.  It's only when we submit on paper or through our own clearinghouse that we link the doc to our submitter id, right?

Short answer = Yes.

Slightly longer answer:  where do you place your submitter ID on a paper claim?

Worth mentioning that EACH person working in the PM system should have their own login for HIPAA security as well as audit trails.
