BILLING RECORDS
« on: February 23, 2012, 06:08:27 PM »
How long am I required to keep billing data as per HIPPA or is it determined by state law? I do not see anything in the HIPPA guidelines that says how long record retention should be.

Thanks!

Federal Act 481/482 state a minimum of 7 years from the date of service unless federal or state law or medical practice standards require a longer retention period.. there's more but that is the general Gist of it.  There are QUITE a few states who's retention time lnes are much longer..so in that case you go by the state record retention law for that state.
