Hi Michele,

I have tried very hard to meet with the actual Dr. I can't seem to get past the receptionist or if I am lucky I sometimes on rare ocassion get a rude office manager. Any suggestions. I already bought and read your books, signing your first Dr. and 12 marketing strategies.

Many drs are protected by their receptionist and/or office manager.  They are trained NOT to let ANYONE thru.  There is not really a sure fire way to get around them.  One of the things we suggest in the marketing book is to go after smaller accounts first, the ones that don't have the staff to 'protect' them.  Many counselors (mental health) don't have any office staff and they are easier to reach.  Also, chiropractors tend to be more reachable.  Optometrists too.  Once you get some clients, you can begin to ask for referrals.  The best way in to a dr with a watchdog is to have an 'in'.  Either someone who works for him, a patient, or a colleague.

I wish I had a magic answer to that one, it would make all of our lives easier.

Just try not to get discouraged when you hit one like this, keep trying, you will eventually get thru.

Hi Michele,
I just read your post and was wondering, will working for a optometrist be different from billing for a medical doctor, do they use the same coding books?

Not really.  They use the same code books, same cpt codes, same diagnoses.  Optometrists just use a handful of the codes.  Not as much variety.  You will be fine.

Yes, but the ophthamologist will use more codes than the optometrist.

We are actually working on a new packet for optometrist billing specifically.  It would contain specific info regarding their billing, info on billing lenses, frames, and contacts, along with 20 completed sample claims.  Would you find that helpful?
